Diabetology

At the Pavel Kolář Center for Exercise Medicine, we provide specialized care in the field of diabetology . Diabetology focuses primarily on patients with type 2 diabetes and its precursor – prediabetes , which are disorders of sugar metabolism that often develop slowly and initially without significant symptoms. We offer patients comprehensive diagnostics and long-term management with an emphasis on an individual approach and prevention of complications .

Diabetic care

Type 2 diabetes is the most common form of diabetes. It occurs when the body stops responding properly to its own insulin (called insulin resistance ) or cannot produce enough of it. The result is high blood sugar levels, which over time can damage blood vessels, nerves, and various organs.

Typical symptoms of type 2 diabetes include:

  • frequent urination
  • excessive thirst
  • fatigue and general weakness
  • delayed wound healing
  • blurred vision
  • recurrent infections (e.g. yeast infections)

Prediabetes is a condition in which blood sugar levels are higher than normal, but not yet high enough to be diagnosed as diabetes. However, it increases the risk of developing type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Early detection and lifestyle changes can effectively prevent or at least significantly delay the development of diabetes.
