Endocrinology

At the Pavel Kolář Center for Exercise Medicine, we provide specialized care in the field of endocrinology . Endocrinology focuses on diseases of endocrine glands (such as the thyroid gland , parathyroid glands , pituitary gland , or adrenal glands ), which produce hormones that affect the functioning of the entire organism. We offer patients comprehensive diagnostics and long-term management with an emphasis on an individual approach and prevention of complications .

Endocrinology

Endocrinology is a medical field focused on the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the endocrine glands , which include, for example, the thyroid gland, parathyroid glands, pituitary gland, adrenal glands and others. These glands produce hormones - chemical substances that fundamentally affect most processes in the human body. Disorders in the functioning of the endocrine glands can lead to either a deficiency or, conversely, an excess of hormones, which is manifested by a wide range of problems. Common symptoms of hormonal disorders include:

  • chronic fatigue and loss of energy
  • unwanted changes in body weight (weight loss or gain)
  • feelings of pressure or discomfort in the neck area
  • skin changes and excessive hair loss
  • noticeable bulging eyes (typical of some thyroid disorders)

If an endocrine disease is suspected, we perform an initial examination, based on which we determine the further necessary diagnostic procedure. This usually includes laboratory tests (examination of the levels of the relevant hormones, or special urine tests) and imaging methods - most often an ultrasound examination of the affected gland. The goal of endocrinological care is to accurately determine the cause of the problem and to initiate a treatment that will lead to an improvement in the patient's health and the restoration of hormonal balance.
