A story from the office: When problems with eye coordination only become apparent when you're tired

Blog - 2026-09-11

A schoolboy came to the office, who had been monitored by ophthalmologists and orthopticians since childhood. His parents did not neglect anything: they took him for regular check-ups, he wore prescribed glasses and followed the recommendations of experts. Despite this, they still saw that one eye deviated significantly to the side when he was tired.

The child complained of headaches, difficulty concentrating, and gradually lost control over eye position throughout the day. Therefore, it was necessary to look not only at visual acuity and diopters, but also at how both eyes work together and what happens during visual strain.

What did the detailed examination show?

The examination focused on the cooperation of both eyes, the ability to compensate for deviation, the stability of binocular vision, focusing, and the behavior of vision during fatigue. It turned out that the child had preserved binocular vision, but his ability to keep his eyes in a stable position was not strong enough.

Targeted approach based on specific findings

Based on the results, an individual program was set up focused on the stability of binocular vision and strengthening the ability of the eyes to cooperate. Some of the recommended activities were carried out at home, some under professional supervision. The individual steps were linked to a specific finding, it was not a general set of exercises.

At the follow-up check, the child's ability to control the deviation improved and the previously noticeable deviation was not objectively manifested in the tested situation. At the same time, the parents described that the eye deviates significantly less when tired, the child complains less of headaches and copes better with visual load and concentration.

Each case requires an individual assessment.

This story does not mean that every eye alignment problem can be solved with the same procedure. However, it shows that if the problems persist, it makes sense to look for connections not only in the diagnosis and diopters, but also in the functioning of the entire visual system.

If your child's vision problems worsen when tired, reading, or concentrating, schedule a comprehensive eye exam.
