Menopause is a natural part of a woman's life. It is not a disease or a physical failure, but a period in which the body gradually adapts to hormonal changes. These can manifest themselves in various ways — weight changes, fatigue, energy fluctuations, poor sleep, mood swings, hot flashes, or a different perception of one's own body. According to the World Health Organization, women's experiences during menopause vary significantly and can affect physical, psychological, and social well-being.

It is during this period that a properly adjusted diet and lifestyle can be an important support. Not as a short-term diet or quick fix, but as a sensitive way to help the body better cope with changes, support energy, regeneration, muscle mass, digestion and long-term health.

At the Pavel Kolář Center for Exercise Medicine in Prague, nutritional counseling is part of a comprehensive approach to health. It focuses not only on weight, but also on the client's overall lifestyle, health, fitness, age, and personal preferences. Care may include a diet analysis, individualized diet adjustments, body composition measurement using the InBody, and a framework diet.

Why the body's needs change during menopause

During perimenopause and menopause, hormone levels change, which can affect metabolism, body composition, sleep quality, mood, and bone health. Some women feel like they're gaining weight even though they haven't fundamentally changed their habits. Others deal with increased appetite, fatigue, loss of muscle strength, or difficulty recovering.

This does not mean that you need to start with strict prohibitions or radical food restrictions. On the contrary. During this period, the body often needs stability, enough quality nutrients, and a sustainable regimen that can be followed in the long term.

The NHS recommends a healthy diet, regular exercise, mental wellbeing and plenty of calcium-rich foods to support bone health as part of a menopausal lifestyle. It also highlights the importance of regular exercise, including weight-bearing and resistance training.

How nutritional counseling can help

Nutritional counseling can help women during menopause understand what their bodies currently need. The goal is not to create a perfect diet, but to find a way to eat that respects their health, daily routine, physical activity, workload, and personal preferences.

In practice, the following are often addressed, for example:

  • weight stabilization without extreme diets,
  • sufficient protein intake to support muscle mass,
  • composition of meals during the day and prevention of evening overeating,
  • supporting bone health,
  • energy during the day and regeneration,
  • diet adjustment for sports, sedentary work or health restrictions.

It’s also important to distinguish between your body’s true needs and the pressures of others. Many women in menopause hear what they “should” eat, how much they “should” weigh, or how they “should” look. But quality nutritional care doesn’t start with an assessment. It starts with understanding.

Nutritional counseling center CPMPK Prague

CPMPK Nutrition Counseling helps clients optimize their lifestyle through nutrition. It focuses on supporting healthy weight loss, building muscle mass, nutrition for sports and everyday life, and long-term changes in eating habits. Recommendations are set with respect to the client's health, fitness, age, and personality.

The service at CPMPK is provided by Mgr. Tereza Rogalewiczová, a physiotherapist and nutritional consultant. Thanks to the combination of physiotherapy, nutrition and interest in psychological connections, she perceives work with the client in a broader context than just the numbers on the scale or calorie intake.

This is especially important when changes in the body do not occur in isolation. Movement, muscle strength, sleep, stress, psychological well-being and eating habits are closely related. CPMPK has long based its care on interdisciplinary cooperation and the perception of the human body as a complex and individual system.

Who is the consultation suitable for?

Nutritional counseling is suitable for women in perimenopause, menopause, and postmenopause who want to better understand the changes in their body and adjust their diet without unnecessary extremes.

At the same time, it is not intended only for this group. The consultation can also be beneficial for clients who are dealing with weight change, sports performance, regeneration, fatigue, long-term eating habits or need recommendations related to their health condition.

The CPMPK Nutrition Counseling Center currently has capacity for new clients. Consultations can also be recommended in conjunction with the care of a doctor or physiotherapist if it appears that diet, lifestyle, weight change, regeneration or body composition may play a role in the client's overall health.

Pressure-free care and universal solutions

Every body reacts differently. What works for one woman may not work for another. That's why it makes sense to look for solutions individually — with respect for lifestyle, health history, exercise options, and current life situation.

Menopause can be a time of change, but it can also be an opportunity to focus more on your health. Proper nutrition, regular exercise, and sensitive professional support can help your body adapt better and enhance your long-term quality of life.

Nutritional counseling at CPMPK is not about perfection. It is about finding a path that makes sense for a specific person.
